DAAN DU TOIT
Daan studied Financial Information Systems at Cape Peninsula University of Technology and began his career working at the BBC accounts department in London. In 1998 he was introduced to the world of media when he took a position at Media Initiatives Group (MIG) and subsequently quickly worked his way through the ranks to become the Global Group Financial Controller in 2004. Daan subsequently also qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA, CGMA) in 2007.
Having played an integral part establishing eType (the online division of MIG in London) during 2000, he decided to bring those learnings back to SA and started Mark1 in Cape Town in 2009. Since then Daan has utilised his extensive online experience and local & global market knowledge to highlight the importance of digital media within South Africa’s challenging media landscape. Daan is passionate about business and creating opportunities to empower people and develop skills; he regards staff as the most important asset of any business and is a firm believer that a happy workforce is a productive workforce.
Joe abandoned what was beginning to look like a long, quiet career in Information Technology for Digital Media in 2005 when he joined Interface Media (Incubeta).
He quickly established himself as one of the company’s top performers and promoted shortly thereafter to Sales Manager where he led various Sales Teams for close to 4 years helping Interface reach record-breaking revenue figures in a then, fairly new Digital industry.
After a period at a top South African B2B Publisher where Joe assisted them to establish their Digital Division, he joined eType (now Mark1) as the company’s first South African Sales Representative.
Joe has been at the forefront of the company’s development, building strong relationships with South Africa’s biggest Agencies and Advertisers and growing the Mark1 Sales Team as market leader in their field. Joe is an out of the box strategic thinker with a natural knack for Technology, Sales and Client Service. In 2014 Joe became the first person in South Africa to be certified in Digital Media Sales by the IAB.
Andre has enjoyed a 30 year career in media and advertising, both as a media owner and in agencies. His career turned digital when he launched the Auto Trader website in South Africa back in 2000. However, Andre’s agency journey took off after 2007 during his term as the Chief Operations Officer at full service digital agency, Amorphous New Media, where he worked on developing strategic direction and online products for large corporate brands like Nedbank, ABSA, Cell C, Hollard and Steers.
In late 2013 Andre turned his attention to performance marketing as Chief Executive Officer for leading online media agency 25AM (previously Acceleration Media). Here he built on a diversified media offering that focussed on measurement and continuous optimisation across display, search, programmatic and social media. Key to this was creating a unified view of the customer by breaking down the silos between media channels and ensuring insights from social media listening informed paid campaigns. Major clients included Direct Axis, WesBank, Allan Gray, Sanlam, South African Tourism, TransUnion, Brand South Africa, MTN, KIA and Renault.
Sometimes on weekends, Andre dresses in lycra and pretends to be a cyclist.
